Mission Discovery’s HOLD the Children program has ministered in Haiti since its founding in 2000. HOLD partners with New Haitian Mission Baptist Association (NHMBA) to operate six schools and an orphanage in the Port-de-Paix area. NHMBA and Mission Discovery are recognized by Haiti’s Ministry of Religious Affairs as well as the Ministries of Education and Health and reports yearly on the progress of HOLD/NHMBA operated schools.

HOLD the Children and NHMBA have joined efforts to strengthen local churches and help families and children at risk. The partnership works to achieve these goals by providing leadership training, Bible schools, and holistic care for local churches. The partnership has also developed school programs in the local churches to serve the community. HOLD the Children’s child sponsorship program helps to provide the necessary aid so that these schools can better serve their communities. There has been a tremendous response by the communities. We have seen great progress in the schools and the children who attend.

Recognizing the need for safe housing for Haiti’s orphans and restavèks (child slaves), Mission Discovery’s HOLD the Children, along with NHMBA, joined efforts to construct a home for abandoned or abused kids in the mountain village of Lavaud, Haiti. Mission Discovery mission teams and local contractors helped complete construction of a 2-story 64 bed facility. The Home opened for residents in January 2010. Expansion continues and enhances opportunities for the residents. The HOLD the Children Home is committed to providing support and compassionate care for the residents as well as preparing these children for life after they leave the Orphanage. Sponsorship of residents helps provide support for the operations of the Home.
