Alex is one of the coolest children in the world. He has a contagious laugh and is always joking around with his friends. You rarely see him sitting still because he is almost always the head of the line of kids playing "bus driver" when he's not in class. He became a student at the Jamaica Christian School for the Deaf in 2009 when his mom reported to a friend that he needed help. Alex is bright, loves to learn, and loves to play on the playground after school each day. He is also very helpful.

This is a young gentleman who is intentional with the conversations he has with anyone. He is one of the more chill/quiet ones, but when you are with him for a little while, his sassy flare comes out and he is hilarious. Atikell started school with a positive attitude in regards to work and behavior. He tries hard and this results in acquiring mastery and near mastery in most areas. Atikell came to JCSD at the beginning of the 2013-14 school year. He had very little previous interaction with other kids, which is why he had some challenges getting along.

Coran Bennett

When he's not in school or playing with his friends, he is a great help around the grounds when the staff needs extra hands. Prior to beginning school at JCSD, Coran had not been in a formal education environment. He is a very playful and helpful child and gets along very well with the other students. Coran likes to play all sports, especially soccer, and he is very competitive. He always wants to win, no matter the sport or opposition. We are very happy that Coran is able to attend school. In the future, Coran hopes to manage a taxi service company.

He is the youngest of his group of friends and more quiet than others. His sweetness is portrayed in his smile and how he interacts with his peers. Courtney is a well-mannered student who is respectful and displays positive attitudes on a consistent basis. He is always smiling. He enjoys being at school. He is very helpful, and very friendly to both teachers and students. He loves to play soccer. He can do well in almost all academic pursuits if he applies himself. He likes learning math more than other subjects and hopes to become a chef in the future.

Delano seemed to be a normal deaf boy when he came to JCSD. He ran and played with his school friends, a good student and a pleasant little fellow. Little did we know that all was not well. Several times he had been absent from school and at one point Delano was hospitalized for several weeks. After returning to school, his father could not give an answer as to what was wrong with him. We noticed one day while he was playing how large his abdomen was. One of our dorm supervisors then reported that at times Delano cried because of the pain in his abdomen.

Dorlens has 2 brothers and one sister and they live together with their mother. They are left alone for most of the day. Dorlens is privileged because he is able fo go to school. His brother and sister do not attend school. We do not always know why some siblings are in school and others are not. Sometimes it is because they must work to help support the family or it could be because there is no encouragement to go to school. Sometimes is is because the family cannot afford to pay.

Dawn is a part of the very tight knit group of high school boys. He dominates on the soccer field but is pretty reserved off the pit. Dwayne makes a good attempt to accomplish his academic work. He enjoys sporting activities such as soccer. He loves dressing up and looking good. As one of the older high school boys, he is looked up to by many of the younger ones. Thankfully he sets a good example and is a good influence on the other boys in the school.

You will often see this girl dancing and/or laughing with her friends. She is spunky and keeps everyone on their toes. Jahnel is hilarious when she tells you stories because of her dramatic gestures and facial expressions. She is an entertaining and friendly student who always livens up the group. Jahnel does very well in school. She occasionally has problems with other students, but her anger quickly passes. Jahnel wants to be a teacher someday so she can help other children with disabilities. She is very smart and determined. She demonstrates strong leadership qualities as well.

Jaleel is one of the most affectionate students at JCSD. He can walk up to you and (if he knows you) sit next to you and just snuggle and give you a big hug. He sits with you for a few minutes and then gives you a big smile, then runs off with his friends continuing his game. He lets people know he cares but is still a boy and is everywhere in two seconds. Jaleel is a great story teller, one who is very expressive. He engages well in class activities. He is very neat and courteous and in the future he aspires to work in the hospital.

This kid is a goofball! He may seem reserved at first but you make eye contact with him and he either gives you a funny face or a very tooth-filled smile. Jared is a smart student and does well when he settles down. He can be very friendly and helpful. His memory is good, and it has rewarded him with the title of “bible verse king”. He is a lover of music and is often heard singing or beating drum rhythms wherever he goes. He likes to make box trucks, he pulls and drives them wherever he goes. He participates well in class. In the future he would like to be a computer technician.

When Jaydean is not following her friends around, she can be found sitting in your lap giving you big hugs or playing with your hair. She often wants assurance and compassion from adults around her and gets a kick out of them letting her do their hair. Jaydean came to the Jamaican Christian School for the Deaf in September 2013. She is a happy, fun loving girl who always seems to be in the middle of whatever activity is going on. Jaydean has adjusted well to the school. She gets along with the other children very well.
