JAMAICA CHRISTIAN SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF

Jamaica Christian School for the Deaf (JCSD) is located in the mountains of Eden District just outside of Montego Bay, Jamaica. JCSD is a residential school that cares for 45 special needs children. In 1986 an AMD missionary went to Jamaica to minister to deaf children starting a school and naming it the Jamaica Christian School for the Deaf. In 2000, the operation of the school was entrusted to Jamaican nationals and continues today under their leadership. JCSD’s 15 staff members provide general education classes, Bible instruction and Christian love and witness to each student. Construction is progressing on a vocational tech center that will provide older children with work experience in areas of auto mechanics, welding, hairdressing, computers, office work, graphic arts, dressmaking and other trades. This training will enable the children the opportunity to live independent lives. JCSD is a private school not funded by the Jamaican government. Therefore, the school is always in need of help.
