HOLD the children will begin supporting the Jean Renaud Mahotiere School in CAPVA, located just outside Citi Solei, the poorest area in all of Haiti. There are 247 children in this small one room school led by Anacias Joseph. Anacias does his best to raise money to pay the four teachers and one helper. It is not easy to find the help to keep the school open. Teachers often do not get paid for long periods. There are no books or school supplies. Teachers use flash cards with English numbers to teach the pre-schoolers to count. Only chalk boards seperate the K thru 6 grade classes. Students are trained to block out competing conversations from the classes sitting next to them. Chalk is passed from teacher to teacher; even the chalk boards are shared with other classes. Children do not have paper and pencil; the only writing source if the chalk and home made chalk boards. Anacias does the best he can with the help he gets.
God introduced this school to HOLD the children during my recent trip to Port au Prince and it is now our responsibility to do something. It is our objective to get this school established in the HOLD program. As a HOLD sponsored school we can provide monthly financial support. We need 25 sponsors at $30 per month to begin supporting Jean Renaud Mahotiere School. Can you help?
